IITH HOSTS EDTF MONITORING AND EVALUATION TEAM
It was indeed a dream come true when the Management of the International Institute of Tourism and Hospitality, Yenagoa, received a high powered delegation of the Monitoring and Evaluation team from the Education Development Trust Funds who were on official visit to the Institute.
Welcoming the team to the Institute, the Rector, Prof. Apuega Arikawei thanked the delegation for the visit. According to Prof. Arikawei, one thing that brings failure in government establishments and projects is the lack of monitoring and evaluation.
He stated that since the administration of the current management team, the crisis that rocked the Institute has become a thing of the past noting that the Institute is moving forward through introduction of more programmes in the Tourism and Hospitality related fields which were graciously approved by the state government.
Prof Arikawei thanked the Miracle Governor, His Excellency Senator Douye Diri for the release of funds to upgrade facilities and to facilitate the accreditation of various programes by relevant regulatory bodies in the sector.
Prof. Arikawei further disclosed that soon the Institute will officially invite the board to the opening of the new site and appealed to members of the team to advertise the Institute to prospective applicants who are willing to study relevant courses in the Tourism and Hospitality industry.
Prof. Arikawei however identified some of the major challenges facing the Institute to include inadequate power supply which the management is working assiduously to bridge that gap in order to carry out training programmes effectively.
Earlier, Prof. Francis Sikoki, leader of the delegation who is also the Acting Chairman of the Education Development Trust Funds noted “we are here to confirm the status of the project, the equipments and report back to the board on the items purchased in the Culinary section of the Institute.”
The visit of the Monitoring & Evaluation team of the Education Development Trust Funds was to ascertain the readiness of the accreditation of the Catering and Hospitality Department and the Center for Vocational and Entrepreneurial Studies (CVES). However, the visit was rounded-off with an inspection of facilities.
